Martyrs'
Shrine Church |

This
is the major religious Shrine in Ontario and one of four
National Shrines in Canada. This commemorative historic
church honours the Jesuit missionary saints who lived and
died here over 350 years ago. The beautifully tended grounds
and gardens contain fountains, outdoor Stations of the Cross,
shrines and monuments. Daily masses on site.

Penetanguishene
Centennial Museum |

History
beckons you to celebrate the past in Penetanguishene. The
history of Ontario's oldest community is proudly displayed
here. Step back in time and learn about the logging industry
and what it was like to live here in the 1800s. Visit an
original 1875 lumber office and general store originally
operated by the C. Beck Lumbering Co. Monthly art exhibits
are featured in the Great Hall. Free Sunday night concerts
in the summer.

Sainte-Marie
among the Hurons |

A
nationally significant historic site and Ontario's first
European community. This is a 17th century Fortress and
headquarters for the French Jesuit mission to the Huron
(Ouendat) people. This site includes over 20 re-created
buildings and an award-winning interpretive museum. Costumed
staff demonstrate life in the 17th century and give presentations
of historic blacksmithing, medicine and carpentry. Native
culture is shared with storytelling and legends in the longhouse.
This site is a "must see".

Historic Murals |

North
America's largest outdoor historical mural towers over Midland
Harbour, this spectacular mural depicts the relationship
between the Jesuits and the Huron (Ouendat) people. It is
one of more than 30 historic murals located in Midland that
celebrate the proud heritage and strength of this area.
Each mural tells a unique story, ranging from the arrival
of the Jesuits to the early pioneers of business. |
